Our Story

It started with a conversation between siblings and a creative spark I’d almost forgotten I had.
Three years ago, my brother and I sat down to dream up something together. He wanted to create his own designs. I wanted to reconnect with the part of myself that had been buried under work deadlines, life responsibilities, and the beautiful chaos of parenthood. Somewhere along the way, I’d lost touch with art, the thing that once made me feel most alive.
That conversation changed everything. As we talked, the idea shifted. What if this wasn’t just about one artist’s work? What if we created a platform for emerging artists across Nigeria, the painters in Lagos studios, the textile makers perfecting adire techniques, the illustrators experimenting with Afrofuturism, the artisans whose incredible work goes unseen?
What if their art didn’t just hang on walls, but moved through the world, worn on hoodies, carried on bags, lived with on cushions? What if we could help them earn from their craft while sharing their stories with people who care about where their products come from?
That question became Simply Thea.
Why “Simply Thea”?
The name reflects the philosophy: keep it simple, keep it authentic, keep the focus on the art and the artist. No corporate middlemen. No complicated licensing deals that favour everyone except the creator. Just direct collaboration, fair profit-sharing, and premium products that do justice to the work.
The Three-Year Journey
I’ll be honest, it took longer than expected to get here. Not because finding talented artists was difficult (Nigeria is overflowing with creative brilliance). The challenge was finding the right quality.
I refused to put beautiful artwork on subpar products. I refused to compromise. If an artist was trusting me with their work, I owed them excellence in return.
So I searched. I tested samples. I rejected options that didn’t meet the standard. I kept going. And now, finally, I’ve found partners who share the same commitment to quality and ethics.
What Simply Thea Represents
This isn’t just a business, it’s a movement rooted in values I hold deeply:
-
Giving back: I’ve been helped along my own journey by people who believed in me. Simply Thea is how I pass that forward.
-
True sustainability: Not just environmental (though that matters), but economic and cultural sustainability, creating systems that sustain artists, preserve traditions, and build community.
-
Discovery over fame: We seek out the unseen, the emerging, the overlooked. The artist working in a small studio who deserves a platform. The maker whose craft has been passed down through generations but hasn’t reached global audiences.
-
Art in motion: Art shouldn’t be confined to galleries. It should live in your everyday life on your body, in your home, moving through the world with you.
The Vision Ahead
Simply Thea starts in Nigeria, but the vision expands across the continent. Every artist we partner with. Every product we create. Every story we share. It’s all building toward a future where African artists and makers have sustainable platforms, fair compensation, and global recognition.
You’re not just buying a product when you choose Simply Thea. You’re investing in an artist’s future. You’re wearing a story. You’re part of something bigger.
Welcome to the journey.
